National Football Managers discussion Thread

I feel this where we should continue all discussions on the Managers of England, Scotland, Wales, Northrn Ireland and Rep of Ireland as amd when needed.

I would think the FA are more than likely to be spending the rest of this summer hesd hunting after Gareth's resignation. I know a lot of us would like to see the new manager take a different approach, but I am thinking we may still see the same approach taken, but I thik it'll would be nice to see someone allowing the players a bit more freedom on the pitch to express themselves and him encouraging them which I don't think Gareth did very much of.

Player wise I think many of the players from Euros will still be in the squad for the qualifiers for World Cup 2026 which I believe comes through the Nations League this time around, which probably gives it more credible position as a competition and the Draw is in December I think. I don't know if we have dropped down the rankings in any way but I think on perfomance related, I expect we will be in the 2nd pot for that draw and that probably us being lumprd in group/league that is going to be quite a daunting one to qualify from. And if we do qualify, I hope we do it with a game to spare.

It's not going to be Eddie Howe, he's stopping at Newcastle.

Graham Potter as “caretaker manager”?

Gareth Southgate started that way until he got a couple of wins under his belt and the decision was made permanent. It’s a good way of taking some of the pressure off in the early days.

If all goes well, he keeps the job. If it doesn’t, you pounce on the first big name that comes up to a contract window (e.g. Pep Guardiola next year, not this year).

Pep Guardiola has said that he is ‘really happy’ at Manchester City. He probably doesn't want to take such a hit in his pay if he took the England job.
