Are you aware that the post you quoted wasn't entirely serious? Probably not because you're clearly desperate to defend the EU at any cost.

As for the French being our friends, I could remind youof Charles De Gaulle and his use of the French veto in 1963 to prevent us joining the Common Market.

When you consider what the UK and other countries have done for France in the past, I reckon a few patrol boats are the least they can do

its far more than a few patrol boats, it was a modern air and sea defence force that was protecting us and from the 1st jan it will not , we will have to do it our self with out the tech the french have as we have so relied on them to look after us we have not updated are armed forces to the level needed, the French have very successful kept are air and sea space clear of continued Russian attempts to enter them, we will find that a lot harder to do,

What absolute nonsense. The French have nothing to do with protecting UK Airspace, the RAF Quick Reaction Alert Forces at Coningsby & Lossiemouth do that and they also cover Ireland.

QRA is a NATO operation and the only countries currently participating are the UK, Bulgaria, The Netherlands, Italy, Romania, Spain & Turkey.

If a Russian Tu-95 or Tu-160 approaches UK Airspace (note, they never enter without permission in spite of the nonsense the Daily Mail prints) it will be a RAF Typhoon that intercepts not a French Rafale.

I am taking about the French aircraft that's job it is to look for submarines , I thought we where taking about the waters around the UK, sorry if I haven't made that clear

Ah the Atlantique which is hardly "modern", it originally dates back to the late 50s. Whatever work it's been doing since we had to ground the Nimrods will have already been handed over to the new Poseidon fleet operating out of Lossiemouth. As France would clearly benefit from us operating QRA in the North Sea a few Anti-Sub patrols seems like quid pro quo.

As for Russian surface ships, the Royal Navy deals with them.

If supermarkets are stocpiling let's hope there is a good stockpile in place if things get any worse towards Jan 1st, which isn't that far off now and the other thing hope checks are going on to ensure that illegals aren't getting in on lorries either especially when yuo consider how many are parked up at the ports and stuff if they have the virus. I'm oner of us mentioned about the schools around those areas may be closed becauae of the log jam and traffic problemsthat will be cauased at midnight Dec 31st
