Dick McTaggart RIP

The Dundonian boxer Dick McTaggart has died at the age of 89.

Wow that is a good age and probably one of Scotlands & Britain's finest amateurs.

He won gold and bronze medals at lightweight at the 1956 and 1960 Olympics and moved up to light welterweight in 1964 only to lose in his third bout to the eventual winner. In 1956 won the Val Barker Trophy for thr best boxing style at the Olympics and won five British ABA titles in 1956, 1958, 1960, 1963 and 1963. In all he won 610 out of 634 amateur before retiring. In 1985 he was awarded the OBE for his services to British amateur boxing. After retirement he worked as a coach to Scotland's boxing team forvthe 1986 and 1990 Commonwealth Games.
