Captain America: Brave New World

Utter tosh, I had high hopes for this movie but it was an absolute borefest to put it lightly. The action sequences were ok, but it didn't really kick into gear until we saw the Red Hulk and even then apart from some fairly good scenes, which we've seen before in the Marvel Universe it was just a run of the mill addition to the franchise.

It took me 3 attempts to watch this because I kept getting bored of it and today I finally finished it. Thank god for that. Definitely a Marvel Movie you'd only watch once. 4/10

Thunderbolts (with an Asterisk)

I'll admit that after Marvel's recent efforts I wasn't expecting great things from this, but I actually quite enjoyed it. I'll avoid posting details but Florence Pugh & David Harbour basically keep the show running quite nicely.

An interesting End of Credits sequence too foreshadowing what should be a fantastic addition to the MCU if it's done correctly.

7/10

Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning 8/10 - entertaining but a bit long. Not quite as much action as its predecessor but still has great set pieces and stunts. And it’s looks amazing in IMAX.

The Accountant 2 (free on Prime).

As usually happens, not as good as the first one, but still an enjoyable film 7/10

Searching for Bobby Fischer (9/10)

A great, underrated film from the 1990s.

It’s a “true story” (insofar as any Hollywood film is ever a true story) about a child chess prodigy.

A weirdly compelling feel-good movie with all the beats and tropes of a traditional “sports movie” — which is hard to believe when the sport is chess!

Features a child actor who doesn’t make you cringe and a supporting cast with stellar turns by Ben Kingsley and Laurence Fishburn as the kid’s contrasting coaches — one an educated cerebral aesthete who teaches him to play with this head; the other a junkie in the park who teaches him to play with his heart.

A few (manly!!!) tears were shed.

Clown in a Cornfield - 6/10 nothing special but some decent killings and a few laughs.

Ballerina - 6.5/10 disappointing John Wick spin-off. Good fight scenes and Ana De Armas is a decent enough lead but the film is cliched and predictable.
