Age Verification

Just to clarify one important point about age verification. Because the AV process works by marking an account as age verified, it follows that new members need to open an account first and then age verify. If someone follows a link to age verify and then opens an account the process will not work - and after opening an account you will need to age verify again.

This is more an observation, certainly not a scientific test, but since the AV has been activated, I seem to have issues accessing the site.

My usual connection is through a vpn with UK exit node.
With no vpn, same issue, but possibly due to content blocking by the isp.

Using Opera with its vpn active, so a non-UK exit node, site works fine.
I just changed my main vpn to non-UK exit node, site works fine.

The non-connections give a variety of errors, including ssl errors, non-https connection warnings which just times out if I choose to ignore, and just general time-outs, nothing that specifically points at the AV causing an issue. Also tried different browsers, same thing.

Could just be a coincidence that its happening now, maybe not. Moving forward, I plan on not using the UK exit nodes on my vpn anyhow, so not really a problem for me.

The “SSL errors / non-HTTPS” part made me think that the issue's with the site's SSL certificate or HTTPS configuration, but then I realised that all locations would likely see such a problem, not just UK ones. Anyway I haven't noticed anything myself since the AV arrived, so I'm not sure that what you report is connected to that.

Today we reached a landmark of sorts: 400 age verifications completed.

Breakdown:
New forum members successfully age verified: 358
Duplicate names - new members verifying twice: 3
Existing forum members who have age verified: 24
Age verifications but no existing forum account: 15

Would we have age Verify again at certain intervals?

The AV process works by marking an account as age verified. It's a one time only procedure.

Yes it increased the number of new registrations to about 5 times the usual level. But it's gradually falling back to what it used to be, so in the longer term it doesn't seem to be making much difference. The number of new members registering is still a little higher than it used to be, but after the initial flurry there doesn't appear to be any dramatic change.
