How deep is the Strait? Wasn't there an incident a few years ago where a tanker or something got stuck in another strait for weeks after misjudging the depth of the water?

We would send a ship Mr President - but first we have to get all the Airfix parts together to build it - but we also have to defend Cyprus...so our navy is pretty busy right now..

Think you are talking about the Suez canal incident? That's in Egypt. If you look at the video I posted it goes over the main reasons why the Hormuz strait is pretty much a kill zone for ships.
