Ultimately Stan Moody collapsed to a 10-7 defeat from leading 7-3.
Two frames really cost the teenager. The loss of a frame to a respotted black was the first sign of a turning of the tide but it was frame 14 that really did the damage.
Moody took on a blue but missed. Wilson needed three snookers.
Moody contrived to miss two easy snookers and then faced a much more difficult one from which he left a free ball. Wilson cleared up and from there on in closed out the win.

Yeah, free-flowing snooker might win over commentators, but bodge at snookers and that's you patronised to death

But a solid debut otherwise.

One thing for sure.
Fan Zhengyi can sure double and even treble balls into pockets

He knocked in some ace pots to win his first frame, but already trailed by 5 - memories of poor old Rory McLeod some years ago.

Prize money going up next year to £625k for the winner.
The UK Championship prize money is also to be increased.

Gary Wilson played well at the start of the match to go 4-1 up, but when the frames got scrappy, Gary made too many unforced errors and Judd won 9 of the next 10 frames for victory.

So far the top 16 seed has won every match, but Fan Zhengyi did manage level at 7-7 with Tubbs. However, Tubbs won the next frame, and looks on course to go 9-7 up.
