Global Public Square
In a busier show than usual, FZ talked to Lloyd Blankfein about his new book, and why the stock market doesn't think the US is going to hell in a handcart.

Last Week Tonight w/John Oliver
His main feature was on the dangers of drugs sold in "gas stations", but he also covered the Supreme Court attack on the Voting Rights Act.

The Daily Show w/Jon Stewart
His guest was civil rights lawyer Sherrilyn Ifill, with whom he discussed the Supreme Court attack on the Voting Rights Act.

2.1 At least these seem to be finite. Casey is in Boston, bejayzus. He tries the "Pilgrim" burger (turkey, cranberry, stuffing, etc), then some Prime Rib. His challenge is 4.5 lbs of Irish breakfast with 14 ingredients, washed down with Guinness. He doesn't manage it, but probably feels no pain afterwards.

2.2 Over to Burlington in Vermont to try a double cheeseburger made with donuts instead of buns; then a beer-soaked bagel including brisket & so on; finally a challenge involving a 3.5 lbs stacked sandwich made with french toast, eggs, ham, bacon, corned beef, sausage but crucially no time limit - so he manages it.

1/3 Paul Nash: The Ghosts of War
Andrew Graham-Dixon, back in 2014, tells the tale of a guy who fell in his WW1 trench, crushed his ribs and thus missed getting killed at Passchendaele. But he flirted with surrealism and got bad asthma instead, plus painted some masterpieces in WW1 and WW2.

2/3 Walter Sickert and the Theatre of War
He admired Whistler and Degas, spent time in Dieppe, left the prostitutes in Venice to paint nudey ladies in Camden (it's a living), enjoyed Brighton, was in Normandy during the Jack the Ripper murders, and generally kept busy with fancy women and nights out. In fact, the one thing he didn't seem to do much was war art, but there it is.

Unspun World
John Simpson sandwiches a look at Ukraine inbetween chats about Iran and Israel, but maybe the interest is the final bit about Merz slagging Trump, and the extent of Trump's response.

The 4th series ends with an obligatory look at a sci-fi film (actually, they did Highlander, to be fair). The days of a budget to send presenter Iain Nathan to a country involved are clearly long gone too. Probably easier to make these shows than the "Discovering/Producers" ones.
CM: Great Expectations
Bloody hell, they churn these things out. A 5th series begins with a "Dickens classic" which at one point looks like they couldn't get many clips from. Anyway, the shrewd part is that the film chucks out a lot of the book, so you can enjoy both separately. Not that I have tried.

TFI Unplugged
Archive chats to Rod Stewart, Tom Jones, and also Elton John the week after the Diana Concert, frankly overshadow new stuff with Chris O'Dowd, plus Kirstie n Phil.

2.3 To Louisville for much chat about horses and bourbon, sampling a beer-soaked chicken, and a hot turkey sandwich, plus a challenge with ultra-spicy popcorn and a large milkshake and one hour... though he manages it inside 3/4 of the time.

An episode from this year, as Naoki meets the legendary (!) Otomo Katsuhiro, whose Akira work really shook up the field. Rather than waste an old man's time at work, they just talk through panels from another of his works, Domu. Again, impressive stuff.

Hopefully a new run, here UN talked to Umino Chica, who's in her 60s and also went for the "cover my face at all costs" bit. She was filmed over 8 days, from layouts to finished work. Her masterwork was a series begun back in 2007 and concerned the playing of shogi, of which I've never heard before.
