RE: Eurovision 2026
I was watching an episode of Father Ted where Ted and Dougal are entered the Eurovison with a naff record 'My Lovely Horse'.
In the show the broadcaster didn't want to win because they didn't want the additional costs of running it next year.

Now the BBC are having to make cutbacks could they have arranged the same this year.

Nobody is forced to host Eurovision. The winner hosting the next contest is a tradition, not an obligation. If you don't want to do it, you just say you don't want to.

It's happened 7 times in Eurovision that the winners didn't host the next contest. The BBC actually stepped in on 5 of those occasions and hosted the contest instead, with Germany and the Netherlands hosting the other 2.

^ Or, you can just make sure that you don't win it. Then it will save the embarrassment.

Then you would miss out on the economic benefits of hosting the contest. The last time the UK hosted was in 2024, standing in for Ukraine. The budget for the contest was £24m, but according to this report the return to the UK economy was reported to be more than £54m.

Dara's winning entry only reached #21 in the UK, which is maybe disappointing.
