This whole Burnham shitshow makes me deeply uncomfortable.

I know we don't directly elect a PM in this country, but 20,000 odd people sending a man to Parliament with the sole purpose of deposing a sitting PM doesn't feel very democratic to me.

Labour have held the Makerfield seat.
Andy Burnham obtained 24,937 votes creating an increased majority of 9231.

The mental gymnastics from Nadine dorries and Reform is quite wild. People voting labour to vote labour out at a general election. Ok. 10k votes behind after throwing the kitchen sink at the by election. Also their candidate was truly an awful guy. If that's the type of people they want to potentially get into a government we're screwed.

The Liberals and the Green lent their votes to Andy. The Green and Liberal got less than 2% between them.

RE: Keir Starmer - and his miserable government
now we'll probably find out how serious Andy Burnham is about challenging Starmer

I agree with HP Kier said so much about what he was going to do to change people's lives when he won and then like trump he's done sweet fuck all in doing what he promised he said would do, I will always wonder if Burnham would have done any damn different had he won that election

I get what you mean, but it's more democratic than what we had under the tories, where they swapped leaders and therefore PM regularly without any input from the electorate at all.

It's certainly a kick in the nuts for Farage, but sadly, the polls show that Reform would have almost certainly beaten anyone other than Burnham, even with that awful candidate.

Whoever ends up as next Labour leader, and PM, has a lot of work to do before the next general election to keep Farage and co. out.

Bet Mad Nad is now keen to be giving all the Reform blokes her blow jobs now if they win next election - that must leave the Greens and all the Scottish parties being only ones she's not given out blow jobs too Tongue

No, I don't agree. I'm not saying what the Tories did was particularly democratic either. But at least they were taking them from big names in the party, who were already in Parliament, and got there on the original GE ticket.

RE: Keir Starmer - and his miserable government
Burnham was already popular but left because of Corbyn I think the spell as Greater Manchester Mayor has done him good in some ways least he is insulated from the last 2 years and the fight he had with boris and tories in the covid days really solidified peoples feelings for him esp up here ie king of the north

in some ways remind me of someone like portillo coming back as an MP just hope its more sucessful Tongue Tongue

he just needs to get rid of the people who gave kier all the ideas to do the thing he did and i would keep streeting close if he was made PM he is definatly a snake
